Neri Hotel & Restaurant 4 Stars

"The most romantic place to stay in central Barcelona, this intimate 22-roomed boutique hotel calls the Barri Gotic district home."

The Press Say

"Interiors that are a luxurious study in textures: stone floors and walls, velvet couches, and crystal chandeliers. Sensual juxtapositions continue in the 22 rooms, which have rustic wooden tables beneath flat-screen TVs, dramatic silk drapes, rough-stone bathroom walls, and all-glass shower stalls." Hotel Overview

Review of Neri Hotel & Restaurant, by The TI Review Team

By TI Reviewer Rebekah Thompson:

Catalunya derives from the term "Land of Castels", and that is precisely what this 18th-century palace, the Hotel Neri, evokes. Located next to Sainte Felipe Neri Square and the Cathedral, in Barcelona's Barri Gotic Quarter; passing through is like walking back into medieval times. Getting lost in the labyrinthine streets is easy, especially with the myriad shopping boutiques and amazing Spanish tapas bars.

The facilities

Neri's restaurant is sophisticated yet intimate, and seats up to 35 people. Its décor plays on the medieval, and the Mediterranean regional cooking is exquisite (but not an option for those on a budget). The rooftop terrace is a haven from the busy streets outside; lounge with friends or a significant other whilst sipping cocktails in the evening, or catch some rays by day. For a u

The rooftop terrace is a haven from the busy streets outside; lounge with friends or a significant other whilst sipping cocktails in the evening, or catch some rays by day. For a unique way to explore this city, the Neri provides Ecobikes and Segways to rent.

The rooms

Tucked away from the lively streets, you can expect to sleep soundlessly. Each floor has a different theme from Renaissance to Florals, to Exotic Horizons. In each of the 22 bedrooms, modern décor defiantly brightens the old stonework. The bathrooms are a true sanctuary, with rainfall showerheads, his'n'hers sinks and separate showers. The suites stray from the 18th-century theme with multiple flatscreen televisions and CD players. Hint: stay on the third floor for great views of the Cathedral.

Tucked away in the heart of Barcelona's Barri Gotic, the Neri Hotel & Restaurant stands out as one of the Barcelona's best boutique hotels. Originally built as a private home in the 18th-century, the boutique hotel oozes history and romance. Its location is enviable - a stone's throw from the Cathedral but delightfully secluded in the Plaza Sant Felip Neri.

Typical of buildings from this era, the front entrance to the boutique hotel was made to impress and it remains a grand and lofty space. Inside, though, the Neri Hotel's designers have created an unabashedly vibrant and welcoming modern space. The front lounge is decorated in rich velvets of brown and red, with low lighting and dark corners, intimate but not at all brazen. Eclectic pieces of art breathe new life into the palace's ancient stone walls, and the enormous glass and metalwork entryway is a masterpiece.

The facilities

If you can resist the urge to draw the drapes and sink into your bed while sipping champagne, pry yourself up and head to the boutique hotel's rooftop terrace. Nestled among the ancient rooftops of the Barri Gotic, there is surely no better spot in Barcelona to enjoy a Spanish sunset. And as the city starts to come alive, migrate downstairs and enjoy delicious food and cool cocktails at Neri Restaurante.

The rooms

All of the Neri Hotel's 22 rooms are slightly different, providing a one of a kind experience every time you stay. It has just two suites (one of which was occupied by John Malkovich for a month while his play Hysteria was at a local theatre), for those who need more space.

The style of the boutique hotel is unique - perhaps best described as Neri chic, the perfect escape from the bustling world outside your window. Lots of attention has been paid to detail in this boutique hotel and it shows: everything is perfect and in its right place. Some of the rooms overlook the Plaza below, and the view only adds to the romance. If the budget allows, splurge on the junior suites, which all boast a sitting area and large, handsome granite bathrooms with double sinks and walk-in showers. In a word: fabulous.

Review of Neri Hotel, by Jamie Dunford Wood

Of all the boutique hotels in Barcelona, the Hotel Neri is probably the most romantically positioned. Gratifyingly difficult to find, the boutique hotel is right in the heart of the Barri Gotic in a maze of small streets and alleyways just steps from the Cathedral. The Hotel Neri provides a quiet refuge in the heart of the city with panache and effortless style, and in historic surroundings.

The facilities

The boutique hotel's entrance is grand and unexpected in such an ancient space - tall double doors open up into a light, covered court area which acts as reception. Its arched gothic interior reveals its origins as a medieval palazzo. There is outdoor dining in a romantic off-the-beaten-track city square in summer.

The rooms

Any hint of tradition is soon banished, however, when you step in the lift, where a dictionary definition of the word 'sensual' is attempted on one side to prepare you for the delights that await you in your room. Each of the 22 rooms in this boutique hotel is slightly different. The first floor rooms have the highest ceilings, some with beams. Floors are all wooden, walls are a sage green colour, though colour schemes change slightly on each floor, with stronger colours on the second. Bathrooms are in granite; there are hanging filigree lamps beside the beds, and large colourful cushions and pillows. Each room has a large flatscreen TV and CD player, and the minibars are stocked with Moet.
