The Quinta do Caracol in Tavira, Portugal has been in existence since 1680. Just 30km from Faro and about 25km from Spain, this boutique hotel is an oasis in the Algarve, and known especially for its charm. Here, everyone is received in a familiar, comfortable and peaceful environment.

Before it opened its doors to guests, Quinta do Caracol was a country farm where olives and almonds were produced. Previously holding the name of the family who owned it, its current name was adopted when the boutique hotel first opened its gates. Caracol means "snail" and inside you can see the detailed spirals as you pass the simplistic white and blue entrance arch.

The facilities

The large and original gardens seen all around this boutique hotel are typically Portuguese. Scores of exotic plants and fruit trees (olives, figs, lemon and apricots) are beautifully landscaped around the property by the original owner, João Marcelo Viegas. Guests can also enjoy a swimming pool surrounded by palm trees that started off as a water tank.

The rooms

Nowadays, the hotel consists of seven houses with the traditional architecture known to the Algarve. One cannot miss the typical handicraft of the region seen most clearly with the original and welcoming décor inside. The Quinta combines a rural atmosphere with the elegance of comfort and leisure.

The houses of this boutique hotel have been deemed the charming names of flowers such as Amor Perfeito or Aloendro. Each kitchenette. comes well equipped with the essentials. The houses are separated from each other in unique ways by flowered terraces, patios or stairs.
