Six Senses Zighy Bay occupies a truly special location. Not until very recently has this secluded area on Oman's Musandam Peninsula been properly inhabited; the towering Hajar Mountains make access very difficult. The resort has overcome this by allowing guests to paraglide down the mountains to the sea (though for the less adventurous, there's tough off-road vehicles that hug close to the twisting tracks).

The facilities

The star of the show here is undoubtedly the spa, a sleek, polished confection of eight treatment rooms, a sauna, steam room and fitness centre. There's a choice of restaurants on-site, from the adults-only hilltop eatery to a smart little coffee shop for freshly-baked pastries. Cuisine covers a wide area, from delicious Arabian mezze, to Thai curries.

The rooms

Each of the Six Senses Zighy Bay's 82 villas is luxuriously appointed, with its own private pool and butler service. They come with air-conditioning, a well-stocked minibar, safe and nightly turndown.
