Dar Zaman boasts an excellent location at the northern end of Marrakech's famous medina, in the Sidi Ben Slimane area. It's a short walk to the souks, Medersa Ben Youssef and the main square, Jemaa el Fna. Inside, the riad is a peaceful and quiet, with the traditional courtyard and pool having been wonderfully restored by the British owner, Peter.

The facilities

Expect a warm, homely atmosphere and truly hospitable staff. The in-house cook, Fatima, is excellent, and will prepare a sumptuous lunch or dinner on request. Breakfast is provided daily for no extra charge, and includes freshly baked bread, croissants, eggs and fruit. There's a jasmine-scented sun terrace on the roof of the riad, the perfect place to while away a few hours with a pot of mint tea and a good book.

The rooms

Each of Dar Zaman's four bedrooms has been decorated with typically Moroccan flair. Think sumptuous fabrics, the softest queen-size beds, en-suite tadelakt bathrooms and, in the case of 'La Carbone', a private balcony overlooking the internal courtyard.
