Villa de L'O is a beautifully restored boutique-style bolthole in Essaouira. It lies on the edge of the medina, just a short stroll from the beach, making this an ideal place for shopping, sightseeing, or just finding a spot of peace and quiet in bustling Morocco. The building itself dates back to the 18th-century, and the original stone detailing has been preserved, despite some pretty contemporary pieces now scattered about.

The facilities

Small on size and small on facilities, there's no restaurant here, though a great breakfast spread is provided each morning. The villa does boast a sumptuous terrace and solarium, which looks out over Essaouira Bay. Plus, there's the expected chic courtyard, the perfect spot to indulge in an ice-cold drink on a hot summer day.

The rooms

There are only 12 bedrooms at Villa de L'O, and each is generous in size and view (either looking out over the bay and island of Mogador or the busy medina below). They all come with flatscreen televisions, designer toiletries and internet connection, and the better ones have private balconies too.
