The Four Seasons Landaa Giraavara is a luxury resort situated on a beach-fringed island in the Indian Ocean. Seclusion, tranquillity and opulence are at the heart of this retreat: think crystal clear blue surroundings and beautifully designed villas that are difficult to leave. There are plenty of activities on offer, from water-sports to tennis, massages to boat cruises.

The facilities

The resort boasts four swimming pools, including a sea-water pool, tennis courts and plentiful gardens. The on-site spa has numerous massages and treatments, while the health club houses a sauna, steam room, gym equipment and provides yoga sessions. For the more active, opt for on-site water-sports (the non-motorised sports such as kayaking and windsurfing are free). Alternatively, make use of the island's excellent dive sites; lessons are available should you need them.

The rooms

There are 102 thatched villas, bungalows and suites. All differ slightly, the biggest difference being whether they're on land or suspended above the sea. The beach villas have open walls, a separate sleeping pavilion and garden. Most villas (land and sea) come with their own private plunge pool but all are equipped with internet access, DVD player, TV and private bathroom with tub and shower. The most expensive suite is situated on a three-deck catamaran, boasting panoramic views of the ocean as well as all the mod cons.
