Amantaka is a peaceful retreat in the UNESCO-protected town of Luang Prabang, Laos. It is an elegant Aman sibling, small and intimate in size, and much beloved for its stellar levels of service, beautiful French colonial buildings and chic pool areas. The resort is within easy walking distance to Luang Prabang's shopping boutiques, bakeries and restaurants, as well as the fabled night market and Mekong River. The former Royal Palaces are also close to hand.

The facilities

Plentiful and ultra-sumptuous. The restaurant serves a good selection of traditional Laos cuisine and Western favourites. There's also a nice bar area, chilled-out and relaxed, for evening cocktails. The spa provides myriad treatments with Aman's signature expertise, and there's also a yoga studio and fitness centre on site. Staff will also arrange guided walking excursions, river tours and day trips on request.

The rooms

Each of Amantaka's 24 suites is luxuriously appointed, light and airy. 16 of them boast private pool areas, and all have king-size beds, dressing areas, well-stocked minibars and deep soaking tubs. The Premier Suites are particularly sybaritic, with sweeping verandas and private treatment rooms, outside entertainment areas and a private pool.
