Grand Hotel et Des Palmes 4 Stars

"This Belle Epoque grand dame in Palmero has plenty of old-school charm, and is centrally located in the city."

Hotel Overview

The Grand Hotel et Des Palmes in Palermo was built in 1856, and was originally the home of the aristocratic Ingham-Withaker family before becoming a luxury hotel. In 1907, Ernesto Basile, one of Italy's foremost Art Nouveau architects, made alterations to the Foyer and to the fireplace saloon, making this luxury hotel one of the most architecturally interesting in the area.

The facilities

The luxury hotel's 100-seater restaurant, La Palmetta, serves traditional Mediterranean fare with an international twist. The bar, Il Gattopardo, is a lavish, 19th century cocktail joint, decorated in purple silk and velvet.

The rooms

The Grand Hotel et des Palmes has 177 air conditioned rooms, which come with Wi-Fi and satellite TV. Decor is calm and unfussy in neutral colours, with contemporary furniture providing a contrast with the rooms' 19th century original fittings.

The Press Say

"...I have a soft spot for the more outlying Grande Hotel et des Palmes, an historic hotel infamous as an alleged meeting place for Mafia dons in the 1950s and 1960s. Extensive renovations last year pepped up the rooms and glorious belle-époque public spaces." Telegraph 05
