Su Gologone 4 Stars

"A charming country house in the Supramonte region, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, with a fantastic restaurant."

The Press Say

"The hotel is a “rustic” building (i.e...a big, white, very beautiful farmhouse) with a pool surrounded by hedges and extensive grounds with mature, fragrant plantings." Travel + Leisure 08

Hotel Overview

Review of Su Gologone, by Gemma Pitcher

The low white buildings of Su Gologone are inspired by the smooth, natural shape of the local architecture, designed by architect GA Sulas to blend into the natural surroundings. A commendable aim, especially when the surroundings are as lovely as these – the hotel lies in the heart the Supramonte countryside, with its rosemary scented olive groves and vineyards. The restaurant is famous for its gourmet traditional cuisine, with specialities including homemade pasta, grilled meats (including roast suckling pigs) and almond-trimmed cakes.

The hotel also has a piano bar, disco (not perhaps quite in keeping with the rustic Sardinian theme), and a pool and tennis court. Rooms and suites are scattered through the large and tranquil park that surrounds the main buildings, with arches, walkways and pieces of Roman and even bronze age stonewo

Su Gologone is one of the worst-kept secrets on Sardinia's luxury hotel market. Despite lying inland near the Supramonte mountains (a winding 30-minute drive from the coast), it attracts droves of loyal guests year on year. The gourmet restaurant is the main draw, but the accommodation and great service also factor in to Su Gologone's success.

The much-lauded restaurant doesn't disappoint, serving up a seasonal menu of classic Italian fare. There is a huge fireplace for spit-roasting during traditional Sardinian evenings, and of course all the produce is local and the food delicious. If you've over indulged (easy to do when the food's this good), you can go to Su Golgone's fitness centre. It offers physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, pampering treatments and personal training. The hotel also has a tennis court and an outdoor pool.

Smaller touches also make this place special: the coloured tiles built into the steps, the old library, the candle-lit tables on a terrace overhung with bougainvillea. The hotel pulls a kind of magic trick, creating a spell of intimacy and romance in such a large building.

Rooms are colourful and comfy yet nicely understated, with beautiful works from Sardinian artists on the walls. All rooms come equipped with satellite TV and dial-up internet connections.
