Review of JK Place Capri, by The TI Review Team

Perched above Marina Grande, with views far out to the Tyrrhenian Sea, JK Place Capri, opened in 2007, upped the style ante on globetrotters' favorite Italian island in a big way. Designed by Michele Bonan-the man behind all the Ferragamo hotels in Rome and Florence-the 22-room luxe inn plays up the building's good bones and gorgeous surroundings with bold colors. It's also a two-minute, downhill walk to one of only two swimming beaches on the island.

The facilities

Kids and pets are both welcome at JK Place Capri. There's a gorgeous pool at the edge of the hill, with an adjacent sunning and dining terrace, where massive teak lounge chairs and chaises lounges juxtapose nicely with white columns and low drinks tables; you can sip a negroni or tuck into a plate of mozzarella shipped in just hours before from Capaccio on the mainland. Spa services are offered in room or in a spa suite, utilizing the excellent ESPA range of products.

The rooms

Prepare to be wowed: JK Place Capri is nigh on impossible to top for sheer taste. Bonan has done most of the 22 rooms and suites up in simple, beach-y combinations of navy and white or sea-blue and white, made modern with graphic prints, departing here and there to mix in soft violet and cream. Furnishings are a mix of mid 20th-century finds, serious antiques, and cosy slip- or leather-covered fauteuils. Maritime objects are scattered here and there; soft cotton dhurries cover marble and oak floors. Every room has tall windows and views onto the sea, or the hotel's own lovely garden and the hills beyond.
