Hotel Overview

Review of Capri Palace Hotel & Spa, by The TI Review Team

If off-the-charts glamour, whatever the cost, is your idea of the only kind of time worth having in Capri, you won't be disappointed here. From the uber-chic carved-stone entrance and the staggering views of Ischia and Procida from one of the low-slung sofas or daybeds dotting the terrace bar to the scene-y pool (lined with plush chaises and serviced by concierges primed to bring you a chilled juice or aperitivo or clean your sunglasses), Capri Palace Hotel should meet the expectations of even the most demanding and sybaritic globetrotter.

Start with that spa: it's of the very serious, almost medical sort-but filtered through the same amazingly chic sensibility that predominates at the hotel. So, you can have anything from targeted vascular stimulation treatments to a simple mud wrap-Vichy shower, all in gorgeous, contemporary, light-filled marble and teak surroundings.

The hotel has several dining options, ranging from the two-starred (and extortionate) to casual, more affordable poolside dining. And, there are two Baia speedboats and a 20-meter sailboat available for guests to book for island and coastal tours.

Standard garden-view rooms start at a steep Euro 450, but are, as standards go, reasonably spacious (though ask in advance whether yours actually looks onto the hotel's gardens or onto the crumbling wall and far less manicured situation in the neighbor's yard); bathrooms are Versace-esque and grand, though not all have baths. Deluxe rooms have sitting areas with Moorish touches-glass floor lanterns, low carved tables-and terraces overlooking the coast or pool. The suites are visions of low-key chic, floored in polished white tile and replete with Le Corbu chairs and Flos Arco lamps with small private pools and metres of seaview terraces.

Come for...

  • The most star-studded poolside scene in southern Italy
  • The spa, one of the country’s best

Not Suitable for...

  • Solitude or authenticity seekers; rustic charm, this is not.

Children

If you can splurge on a suite, it’s ideal for family travel. Otherwise, standard rooms don’t allow space for cots, let alone extra beds.

Eating in

L’Olivo has two Michelin stars and breathtakingly high prices; Il Mosaico is a more casual seaside grill with views and simple fare; the chic renovated wine cellar boasts 12,000-plus bottles.

The Press Say

"Here you can bathe not just in the spa waters but in the knowledge that you are looking at the same views that have been admired by the celebrity visitors that come back to the island again and again." The Telegraph 07
