Tamarix Del Mar Suites calls the quiet town of Kamari, in Santorini, home. This is a lovely spot for a romantic or quiet family break on the island. Not as bustling as Oia or Fira, it boasts a wealth of cosy tavernas and cafes, a couple of cinemas and some of the nicest beaches in the area. The hotel is traditional in style, with friendly, attentive staff and a personable vibe.

The facilities

Five traditional two-story buildings, clustered around the main pool area make up the hotel; some are white, some a burnished ochre and all have pretty Aegean-blue doors and windows set in them. Light meals and snacks are served around this pool area (there's also a separate, smaller pool for children), and room service runs until midnight.

The hotel's grounds are set off by climbing bougainvillea, which are carried through to the private balconies and pagodas. There's also a small gym area, sauna and spa treatments (by arrangement). An array of watersports and diving classes can be arranged at the nearby beach by hotel staff.

The rooms

Each of the 25 guestrooms at Tamarix Del Mar Suites shares the same clean-lined, traditional decor as the communal areas. All are spacious and come with air-conditioning, a well-stocked mini bar, private safe and complimentary wifi. The Superior Suites are fabulous, with sweeping private balconies, separate living areas, Jacuzzi tub and king-size four poster beds.
