Perched 300 metres above the Aegean at the very end of the charming village of Firostefani, boutique hotel Sun Rocks has an ideal location with views of Santorini's volcanic crater that couldn't be any better. After a complete refurbishment in 2007, the boutique hotel's sleek, sexy bedrooms are now some of the smartest on the island. Sun Rocks prides itself on being the ideal escape for weddings and honeymoons.

The facilities

Couples while away their days on specially-designed double sun loungers around the boutique hotel's pristine swimming pool, occasionally popping off for a massage in the single spa treatment room.

Dinner at the boutique hotel is an intimate affair. Elea Fine Dining restaurant only has four tables (booking is essential) and serves gourmet fare and the Faos Poolside Restaurant offers simpler international dishes for lunch and dinner.

The rooms

Chandeliers from France, antique tables from Romania and Italian hand-made furniture lend this boutique hotel's 17 rooms an eclectic, international ambiance. Bulgari toiletries in the mosaic-tiled bathrooms, eye masks and Evian face-sprays in the mini-bars and silky Frette linen sheets on the Balinese-style beds add that essential element of luxury.

The huge Grand Suite may have its own pool, but the three Experience Suites are the most decadent and romantic of all. Instead of the standard sun terraces that are ubiquitous in Santorini boutique hotels, they have black, sunken marble Jacuzzis beneath floor-to-ceiling picture windows which frame Santorini's legendary sunsets.
