Review of Porto Mykonos, by The TI Review Team

Perched just above the narrow alleys of Mykonos Town, in a warren of white stucco bungalows, Porto Mykonos is the insider's affordable favourite on Mykonos. All the must-haves-proximity to town, light, air, and sea views, design that artfully mixes rustic touches with urbane glamour - are in place, along with a friendly staff ready to meet your need when you need them, and to leave you alone when you don't.

The hotel boasts a freshwater pool bordered by flagstone terraces, lined with cafe tables at which guests can enjoy lunch and dinner from an impressive a la carte menu of vegetable and seafood dishes-and, in the morning, a massive American-style buffet breakfast. (After dark, the whole place glows in the light of dozens of tiny votives, mirroring the lights of the town below.) There's a small sauna and a 24-hour fitness center; a cool-looking but massive (for Mykonos) conference facility with state of the art presentation equipment; and a can-do concierge with Mykonos Town's best eateries and scene-y clubs on speed dial.

As in the public spaces, the rooms demonstrate a practiced hand with mixing vintage and rustic-charm pieces with slick modern textiles (the shine of mirrored tiles shows up below the rough elegance of a whitewashed ceiling beam). Linen drapes are shot through with metallic threads; Noguchi-like sculptural lamps glow in corners; massive floor cushions invite lolling on cool white-tile floors. Standard doubles aren't large, but the floods of sunlight they enjoy make up for their diminutive size.
