Chateau de Gilly is a former Cistercian monastery, parts of which date back to the 14th-century. It sits in the heart of Burgandy's wine country, between Dijon and Beaune. The famous vineyard of Château du Clos Vougeot is close by, making this a hotspot for wine fanatics and gourmands.

The facilities

Plentiful facilities on site, from the acres of manicured French gardens that surround the moated chateau, to the on-site spa. What really draws the crowds here though is of course the restaurant. Serving sophisticated French cuisine, accompanied by a cellar-full of vintages that number 15,000+, it's certainly not a place for teetotallers and dieters.

The rooms

Each of Chateau de Gilly's bedrooms and suites are traditional in style. Expect plenty of chintz (don't say we didn't warn you), but high quality everywhere, from the antique furnishings to the plush carpets.
