La Maison du Frene 4 Stars
"Artistically beguiling, this eccentric boutique hotel is filled with objets d'art and modern works in the historic district of Vence."
Hotel Overview
Located in the very heart of the historic district of Vence, La Maison du Frene boasts an exceptional location. The 18th-century building is near the Pharmacie du Frene, the oldest pharmacy along the French Riviera, and lends a quaint, antiquated atmosphere to the surroundings. The house combines traditional Provencal furnishings with contemporary touches. It faces the Chateau de Villeneuve and the famous Ash Tree of Vence, planted during the reign of Francois I.
The facilities:
Minimal facilities here: this is a proper 'boutique' experience. There's a cosy lounge area, stuffed to the gills with art books (the perfect place to head on a rainy afternoon). The kitcher-than-kitch kitchen serves breakfast only (which is home-baked and wonderful) on a long, communal table.
The rooms:
Each of the four Junior Suites have views over the monumental entrance of the chateau and the historical ash tree. All have a different carefully selected decor. Each bathroom is fully equipped and comes with a relaxing rain shower. The contemporary design of the rooms makes it a surprisingly comfortable and relaxing place to stay.
