Hotel La Baronnie - Domaine du Bien-Etre 3 Stars
"A pretty little B&B on the Island of Re, Hotel La Baronnie is surrounded by beautifully kept gardens and lies a stone's throw from the harbour."
Hotel Overview
This pretty 18th-century manor house is now run as a boutique B&B on the Island of Re. Hotel La Baronnie has a long and colourful history; owned by various members of the French royal family, it slowly fell into disrepair after the Revolution and became national property in 1791. The current owners bought it in 1996 and embarked on a extensive restoration project; the result stays true to the history of the place, with a friendly, intimate atmosphere and luxurious touches.
The facilities
Minimal, as befits a proper boutique B&B. The gardens are the main draw, dotted with shaded recliners they are the perfect place to while away a sunny afternoon. The courtyard is fragranced by climbing jasmine, mint and lavender, whilst the harbour is a short stroll away. There's no restaurant, but plenty of dining options close by; ask staff for recommendations.
The rooms
Each of Hotel La Baronnie's 16 guestrooms is traditional and elegant (though of varying sizes owing to the age of the house). All have flat screen televisions and wifi access, and are individually decorated. The Chambre du Roy (King's Room) is richly appointed, a reminder that Louis XVI once bought the property for Marie-Antoinette.
