Château Grand Barrail is a beautiful 19th-century country house, located just outside Saint Emilion in Bordeaux. It's a place for serious foodies and vinophiles, boasting a grandiose restaurant and acres of vineyards, amongst other things. This is the place to head for picture-perfect Bordeaux; think long bike rides through country lanes with a backpack of crusty baguettes, stinky cheese and fine wine (or that's the idea anyway) .

The facilities

Apart from the restaurant, the hotel also has great spa and fitness facilities (you'll need it after all that rich food). The Spa Saint Emilion is one of only a handful medicinal spas in France, and so there's a keen focus on wellbeing here. The rooms

Each of the 46 rooms and suites is luxuriously appointed and all have views across the grounds and vineyards. They are contemporary in style and have all mod cons, like flat-screen televisions and gorgeous bathrooms.
