Hotel Overview

Review of Hotel Particulier Montmartre, by Nadia Latif

Trying to find the Hotel Particulier Montmartre is something of a challenge. When TI visited, we're ashamed to say we spent at least half an hour wandering the streets of Montmartre, trying desperately to locate the so-called Passage du Rocher de la Sorcière (Witch's Rock Passage). Thankfully, this petite boutique proved well worth the effort. It lies in a handsome white townhouse, surrounded by Louis Benech's wild and wayward garden. Inside, it is near-fantastical, a bright and airy haute-design bubble.

As with most 'microhotels', facilities here are minimal; the focus is wholly on the design-led suites. Morgane Rousseau has gone all out, piecing together a sleek and contemporary urban bolthole. The hotel does accept children, although noisy families, like large pets, would seem totally out of place. There's no restaurant, but a light snack menu is catered for until midnight - there's also a well-stocked honesty bar tucked out of view in the main salon.

Each of the five suites has been individually decorated, with input from different artists. They are wonderfully named, as only French-English translations can be - you may be put up in 'Trees with Ears' for example, or the 'Vegetal Room'. All are spacious by any standard and have flatscreen televisions, garden views and gorgeous bathrooms. Our favourite? The top-floor suite, rather wonderfully dubbed 'Curtain of Hair'.
