Chateau de la Treyne, Lacave, France
Chateau de la Treyne 4 Stars
A dreamy castle on a bluff over the River Dordogne, elegant, refined and surrounded by formal French gardens and forest.
Hotel Overview
The Chateau de la Treyne is a 14th-century castle in Midi-Pyrenees. It is an historical retreat, surrounded by 120 hectacres of ancient forest. Staff are warm and welcoming, headed by owner Michele Gombert and her son Philippe. The area itself is surrounded by walking trails, fishing lakes and stretches of canoe-friendly water. All in all, it's a fab excuse for some adventures in the countryside, without compromising on that Relaix and Chateau-esque charm.
The facilities
As well as the forest and formal French gardens, the hotel boasts a beautiful terrace that overlooks the river (perfect for summer dining). The restaurant serves haute-French cuisine of the highest standard - his 'foie gras four ways' is renowned.
The rooms
Chateau de la Treyne are traditional in style - there's floral patterns to satisfy even the most chintzy of tastes. They come equipped with satellite televisions, mini bars and work-stations. Take our advice and book into one overlooking the French gardens - and a four-poster is a must.
