A family run hotel, Le Richelieu was established in 1969 by the Gendre family and, despite being renovated a few years back, maintains its original magic and charm. Situated in the tiny port of La Flotte on the island of Re, France, the Mediterranean style hotel is a short distance from the historic town of La Rochelle and lies in close enough proximity to explore the wine regions of Bordeaux. Sea views and authentic French flair create the perfect atmosphere for a peaceful stay. As a member of the Relais and Chateaux group, hospitality is ten out of ten.

The facilities

Everything at Le Richelieu is in keeping with the area and the Thalassotherapy spa and beauty centre is no different. Salt water from the sea is used as a base for some treatments and a half day course will have you rejuvenated in no time. The hotel gardens offer a serene setting, whilst the heated outdoor pool is great for a dip. And with the beach just a small hop across the road, it's inexcusable not to relax here.

The rooms

Most of the 40 air-conditioned rooms and bungalows have terraces that either look out onto the garden or out towards the sea. Individually named and decorated, the rooms each have their own eclectic style but all share a sense of homeliness. Rich colours, parquet floors and traditional furnishings mix with glimpses of retro chic to offer a warm base from which to enjoy the surrounding areas.
