Review of Chateau de la Chevre d'Or, by Jamie Dunford Wood

Situated at the top of the village of Eze, the Chevre d'Or (golden goat) takes some getting to, through a maze of winding alleys, past heaps of exhausted tourists - but once you arrive the luxury hotel proves an absolute haven.

A series of terraces with tinkling water features and a small cliff edge pool look over the wide, blue Med, with Cap Ferrat beyond. They boast a wonderful two Michelin star restaurant, La Chevre d'Or, that has a highly romantic atmosphere. It would be wise to book ahead for the restaurant as it is in high demand.

If you fancy a more relaxed eatery head to Le Cafe du Jardin (exclusively for hotel guests) for a light lunch by the pool, or get an exotic evening meal on the terraces at Eden outdoor restaurant. Also on the terrace is Les Ramparts, which serves brasserie-style food, lunch service only. Jazz bar du Chateau is the best place to round off your evening. As well as all this, the heated pool and whirlpool are the perfect locations to relieve tension.

The 36 rooms and suites can be on the cosy side, but all tastefully done, some with frescoed scenes on the walls. High ceilings and chandeliers add a touch of sophistication - though most exciting for some will be the Jacuzzis in every room. Each room is comfortably air conditioned and comes with satellite tv, minibar and safe as standard.
