Mena House Oberoi Hotel 5 Stars

Hotel Overview
Review of Mena House Oberoi Hotel, by Belinda Jackson
There's a compelling reason to stay at the Mena House Oberoi: open the drapes and there's the Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops). The hotel is a five-minute walk to the gates of the Great Pyramids and about 20km from the world's oldest Pyramids at Sakkara.
The elaborate former royal hunting lodge opened as a hotel in 1869 and is now one of the world's grandest dames. It comprises 486 rooms and suites in the Palace and the Mena Garden wings on 40 acres of gardens, though the feeling is of a much smaller hotel. Note that the Palace wing will close for renovations for one year from May 2010.
The facilities
Holes 3 and 14 of the Mena House Oberoi golf course are the best for the classic 'putting by the Pyramids' snap and staff are happy to oblige. The extensive refurbishment program saw the addition of a new pool, large gym and new Oberoi spa, upgraded golf course and two new restaurants.
The rooms
The newly renovated Mena Garden wing rooms have either a Pyramid or a Garden view, all with balconies, large marble bathrooms and classic Egyptian furniture inlaid with mother-of-pearl and ivory. No two suites in the Palace wing are identical, though each feature handcrafted mosaic tiles and arabesque furniture.
