Hotel Overview

Kapawi is the largest community-based projects ever developed in Ecuador. This luxury eco-hotel was created to provide a high standard service in one of the remotest and most pristine areas of the south east of the country, away from oil exploitation and other destructive practices.

The Kapawi project was initiated in 1993 by the private enterprise Canodros S.A. in partnership with the FINAE, Federation of Achuar Indigenous People in Ecuador. by providing a monthly means of economic support and jobs to the Achuars, superior to the relatively limited lifestyle in an area of 5.000 square kilometers with a population of 4,500 people in 56 communities. In 2011, all installations will be transferred at no cost to the Achuars.

It provides multiple activities in programs that are characterised by their flexibility. Most itineraries include visits to the Achuar communities, hikes in the rainforest, canoeing, bird watching, and other activities.

Hotel Policies

Airport/Hotel Transfers: To accommodate the traveler, the hotel begins trip to Kapawi in Shell. The only option for getting to and from Kapawi from Shell is to travel with hotel by air. However, to accommodate many guests who fly into the international airport at Quito the hotel do offer overland option from Quito to Shell and back. Air Transportation Shell - Kapawi - Shell: USD 174 per person. Travel Option from Quito to Shell: Quito - Shell - Quito (overland transport) USD 60 - Round Trip per person. (This rate must be added to the Shell-Kapawi-Shell air transportation price)
Hotel Promotions: Weather conditions are unpredictable in the tropical rain forest and occasional delays can be expected. The hotel recommends you to consider adding an extra day on the end of your visit to Kapawi to make sure you meet your connecting flights to your next destination.
Other Important Information: Contribution to the Achuar Community (per passenger): USD 10.00 entry and USD 2.50 per night is NOT included in the price. Any other National or International tax needed to be paid at the airport when arriving or departing from Ecuador.
