The Square 4 Stars

"A great location on Town Hall Square lifts this simple but clean-lined and comfortable hotel, in a converted office building."

Hotel Overview

Review of The Square, by Isabel Clift

If you're after a good quality hotel in a couldn't-be-more-central location, The Square does very nicely for Copenhagen. Facing the city's Town Hall Square, the luxury hotel is just across the way from Tivoli and main shopping street Strøget. The smart, uniform styling won't blow your mind, but there's certainly nothing to offend here - plus cow-print couches and retro-Scandinavian style lounge chairs in the lobby do well in spicing things up.

The facilities

The breakfast room is on the top floor, so you get lovely skyline views while you tuck in to your buffet. For drinks and free Wi-Fi, head back down to the lobby bar. There's a coffee shop integrated into the building just outside, so you needn't go far to pick up snacks. Friendly, professional staff are happy to recommend restaurants for evening meals.

The rooms

Unsurprisingly for a hotel called 'The Square', rooms have smart, blockish decor with squares popping up everywhere from the chequered couches to cuboid lampshades. As well as complimentary tea and coffee, you're also left a plethora of info-packs on Copenhagen's top attractions, cultural sites and places to eat and drink - very useful to have at hand.

If space is your thing, go for a higher room category. Our L-shaped Junior Suite on the 6th floor had loads of light and room, and its high windows stretched across a whole wall to give impressive views of the Town Hall square. Outside, the long (non-private) furnished balcony was fab for people-watching. Our LCD TV could be swivelled to view from either the lounge or the bed, and double glazing kept the hubbub below to a whisper - a huge incentive when staying in a busy area.
