Review of Hotel Skt Petri, by Isabel Clift

"Wow," is the reaction you get from most Copenhageners when you say you're staying at Skt Petri. Luckily, Copenhagen's premiere - and pretty much unrivalled - design hotel is as polished and sleek as the hype suggests. With smiley, professional staff and a trendy bar, you're bound to feel in the thick of things - but if calm's what you need, the funky purple-lit lifts will whizz you upstairs in a second.

The facilities

Skt Petri's Bar Rouge really is one of the best places to see and be seen in Copenhagen - go for a cocktail to rub shoulders with high-flying types, socialites and the odd footballer. Downstairs the cafe does fantastic brunches, and those in a mood for a square meal can't do better than Brasserie Petri for French-themed modern dining. On top of that, the breakfast menu is a sumptuous affair, and selections can be delivered to your door for an extra treat. If you think you've over-indulged after all that, there's a gym and spa services on hand.

The rooms

Rooms benefit from smart but decorative Scandi-styling - all, from the smallest to the Star Suite, have blonde parquet flooring, cubic furniture and squidgy king-sized beds. Little extras leave the best impression: bathrooms have walk-in showers with REN toiletries, and we enjoyed having a flick through Skt Petri's coffee-table guide to Copenhagen, left by our bed. Nicest of all are the wood-decked private balconies for all rooms on the 6th and 7th floors - we loved the view of church spires and rides at Tivoli whirling in the distance.

Our Medium category room did very nicely, but if you're after a little more bling check in to an X-Large room or one of the suites. Bang & Olufsen flatscreen TVs, huge lounge areas and a Jacuzzi (in the stunning Star Suite) await.
