Grand Hyatt, Hong Kong City, China
Hotel Overview
Review of Grand Hyatt, by Solange Hando
Towering 36 floors above Victoria Harbour, the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong fits perfectly on the island's futuristic skyline, but step inside and you are back in the 1930s.
The luxury hotel's spacious lobby is designed and furnished like the lounge of a lavish period liner, public areas abound in foliage and water features and in the recently revamped JJ's Music Room, celebrities sip sophisticated cocktails to the classic rhythm and blues of the resident band. The welcome is warm yet discreet and with 17 major awards in the past two years, the luxury hotel ranks among the finest in Hong Kong for business and spa.
The Grand Club offers eight floors of executive accommodation, an exclusive panoramic lounge and the latest business facilities, complete with board and meeting rooms and services of multi-lingual officers. The island's business districts and ferries to Kowloon are minutes away, the Convention and Business Centre is adjacent. On the 11th floor of this luxury hotel, the Plateau Residential Spa has over 7430 m² of treatment rooms and fitness facilities, including jogging track and 50 metre swimming pool, dotted with auspicious figurines of turtles and fish.
Over 70% of the 549 rooms have harbour views with floor-to-ceiling windows, the others look down on landscaped gardens. Soothing shades are complimented by light-coloured wood, black and white Chinese prints and small carvings in a stylish stream-lined décor. Five star amenities include work station, Egyptian bed linen and attention to detail, down to wooden tissue box and silk clothe hangers. The luxurious marble bathroom has a deep bath and walk-in shower, gold plated taps and toiletries of aloe vera, rosemary and mint.

"Impeccable service all round. Jake the concierge makes things happen. Views of both Kowloon and Central Hong Kong are very special." Telegraph 07Reviews
Review of Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, by Daniel Scott
The enormous 549 room Grand Hyatt Hong Kong hotel, on Hong Kong island, was rated highly enough to host Bill Clinton's Presidential visit in 1998. "The staff make a stay here memorable," says regular guest, Therese Fung, of Lucky Star casinos, "although they don't necessarily do everything by the book".
The sheer size of the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, the expansive grounds of which include the largest heated hotel pool in Hong Kong, its less-than-central location and its corporate feel, are not in its favour. However, its 8 "Grand club" upper floors - featuring rooms with 2 phone lines and even some with mini step machines - and the dedicated lounge for breakfasts and meetings on-the-run, are useful for those on business. Nor is there anything wrong with the slinky design of the hotel, which includes a striking black marble Art-Deco entrance hall.
Review of Grand Hyatt, by Belinda Jackson
With sweeping views of Victoria Harbour and Kowloon from nearly three-quarters of its rooms, the luxurious Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is a likely contender for the crown as Hong Kong’s best hotel.
As the Hyatt International's flagship property, the location is impeccable – it sits right beside the Convention & Exhibition centre as well as the Wan Chai Star Ferry terminal, spot-on for both business and leisure travellers.
The front desk in the Art Deco foyer is on-message: everybody really does know your name, and, more importantly, remembers your requests and queries from the day before.
The Plateau spa, Hong Kong’s first residential spa on the 11th floor, has consistently scooped awards for best spa in Hong Kong since it opened in 2004. The judges probably had the signature Plateau Facial, using Carita, June Jacobs and Paris’s Payot range, all exclusive to the spa in Hong Kong. The fitness section is kitted out with a 50m swimming pool, 400m jogging track, tennis and squash courts, so no excuses, couch potatoes.
New to the hotel is the tiny 36-seat Waterfall Bar, a chic little outdoor lounge that punches well above its weight, with panoramic views of Hong Kong Island, a Cuban cigar menu and an elegant snacks list that dishes up caviar, fois gras and lobster.
That brings the total number of the Grand Hyatt’s restaurants and bars to nine, including One Harbour Road for traditional Cantonese, the Italian Grissini and Kaetsu, which flies in fresh produce from Japan for its Japanese menu. There’s also Thai on offer and the Art Deco Champagne Bar at the lobby level has the largest collection of champagnes in Hong Kong. Weekend brunches are a local institution, and the outdoor barbecue out by the pool draws the crowds on warm evenings.
Seventy percent of the 553 rooms and suites overlook Victoria Harbour and Kowloon, the remainder looking into landscaped gardens, with minimalistic décor and super-fast internet and business services. The Grand Club takes up five floors, with a club lounge on the 30th and 31st floors for quiet breakfasts with sweeping harbour views and butlers galore, who can organise Chinese visas and a private yacht.
