Review of Hotel Zur Tenne, by Christoph Hargreaves-Allen

This luxury hotel lies in the heart of Kitzbuhel but has a great view of the Kaiser mountain massif from its higher windows. An old town house painted in joyful colours, the Zur Tenne is a careful mix of the worldly and the countrified.

The facilities

The exquisite wood-sculpted bar, four-poster beds piled high with cushions, spacious, first class bathrooms and fire-warmed bedrooms all contribute to its style of luxury and elegant country living. Soft-checked arm chairs sit within the luxury hotel's historic rooms and the careful service and excellent Tirolean cuisine ensure that the body is as nourished as the mind is relaxed.

The rooms

Not exactly understated in style, this luxury hotel's rooms are nevertheless so comfortable you may have trouble leaving them. The quasi-medieval feel of the interior may prove a little heavy for some guests but the amenities are first rate. Many of the rooms have four poster beds and fireplaces. The hotel was created in the 1950s by joining together a series of 700-year old houses.
