Stay at the grand luxury hotel, Hotel Hassler, perched atop of Rome's Spanish Steps and you are likely to feel very special indeed. The Hassler aims to make its guests feel as if they have “come home” and though this is only realistically possible if you happen to live in a palace, staff do try hard to be welcoming and helpful. However, the luxury hotel’s Roman hospitality doesn’t come cheap, with even a coffee in the courtyard costing around 10 times what it would in a nearby café.
The facilities
If you are looking for somewhere cool at the luxury hotel (in terms of temperature at least) and quiet for a drink or coffee in central Rome then you could drop in on the bar, then head to Hassler-Medici’s ivy-clad inner courtyard where Princess Diana was prone to hiding out with her favourite “Bellini” cocktail.
The rooms
The Hassler’s classically-decorated rooms are a fair size and have the latest technology but few share the luxury hotel's quality views over Rome from its roof-top restaurant.
