"A charming whitewashed facade is met with equally lovely rooms at the restaurant-with-rooms in the pretty countryside near Bath."

Boutique hotel and gastropub The Wheatsheaf in Combe Hay is one of Somerset’s best kept secrets. This country pub retreat is small but perfectly formed, in a village only four miles from the gorgeous Roman city of Bath. Mix day trips to the city or countryside with evenings spent by the Wheatsheaf’s log fire, tucking in to truly excellent food.

The facilities

The boutique hotel has three acres of garden, with a terrace for summer dining on delicious French-British crossover meals from the restaurant. Locally-sourced produce includes diver-caught scallops from Lulworth Cove, beef reared on the Mendips, local game provided by owner Ian Barton and the freshest vegetables from the kitchen garden. Wash it all down with real ale and local cider at the bar.

There’s no room service at the boutique hotel, but continue the indulgence with an in-room massage or beauty treatment.

The rooms

The Wheatsheaf’s three guestrooms stand in the garden, decorated in a contemporary-rustic style with teak furniture and king sized beds. The en-suite bathrooms have ‘rainwater’ showers and White Company toiletries in the bathroom. Goodies include flat screen TVs, Egyptian cotton sheets and a welcome Tuckbox that comes with fresh ground coffee, speciality teas, hot chocolate and other little treats.

Press Quotes

"Under new owners, the Wheatsheaf has shed its musty, fusty country-pub trappings to take on a gleaming new lease of life. Top-quality local produce is teamed with Eastern spicing and techniques." The Times 07
