Press Quotes

"Inside, it is equally grand: marble floors, vaulted ceilings and a glass chandelier that drips illuminated beads down the stairwell. The roll-call of designers is impressive: Osborne & Little, Designer's Guild, Cole & Son, Paul Smith, Kenzo, Diane von Furstenberg, Kelly Hoppen.” The Guardian 06

"Bringing style, colour and lots of flair...to Reading; this boutique hotel is the most stylish place to stay in the city."

Built in 1911 as the Shire Hall for Berkshire County Council, this listed building is most impressive and one that lends itself effortlessly to become a luxury hotel.

24 bedrooms and suites, over 4 floors, have been designed to suit the needs of the single business person and also the couple seeking a luxurious and stimulating environment. Each bedroom has a king size double bed, with French satin cotton sheets and huge sumptuous pillows. American walnut floors conceal under floor heating controlled to be warm underfoot when you get out of bed in the morning. The wardrobe conceals a Nespresso coffee machine with a choice of 4 coffee strengths and 6 different tea, and a fridge containing complimentary water and soft drinks.

Soft furnishings are from the top design collections; Osborne and Little, Designers Guild, Cole & Son, Kenzo, Paul Smith and Nina Campbell. Bang & Olufsen television and HiFi give the guest the best sound and vision quality available.

Moving on through the building you arrive at our cinema. Unique for Reading with 30 Italian leather seats, over 4 rows. Endless of possibilities for corporate and private use. The original council chamber is home to the stately Grand Salon, an impressive room with hand painted walls giving an opulent and warm setting for family gatherings, board meetings, private lunches or dinners.

Cerise is our restaurant and bar with a style which we call Brasserie Luxe’ quality dishes with integrity and provenance of food.

Our food mission statement reads ‘Simple, well cooked dishes that use only the best seasonal produce available, sourced from certified sustainable stocks’ delivered in an informal but professional manner, creating a warm buzzy atmosphere suitable for a quick bite for lunch to a planned family celebration dinner.
