L'Ingenue has a good local reputation

"Formerly the residence of the legendary Marquis de Sade, the 18th-century chateau is nestled in Mazan just 25 km from Avignon."

Nestled at the foot of the legendary Mont Ventoux, the Château de Mazan is situated in the charming village of Mazan in the heart of Provence. This elegant 18th-century building is where we will welcome you in a sumptuous setting combining charm, gastronomy and comfort.

Built around 1720, the Château was the birthplace of both the father and the uncle (the well known Abbé de Sade) of the legendary Marquis de Sade. Although he spent most of his life in Paris, the latter stayed frequently at the Château de Mazan, where he organized various memorable events, including France’s first ever theatrical festival in 1772.

Nothing could be more delightful than to enjoy a siesta in the shade of the mulberry trees by the rotunda, read a book at the foot of our centuries-old olive tree or stroll along paths bordered by lavender and santolina in the grounds of the château, which are filled with the magical scents of Provence’s native plants. The swimming pool, with its natural colours, is a welcome oasis on hot summer days.

Our restaurant, L’Ingénue, is much esteemed by gourmets, highlighting local products according to season. On warm summer evenings you will be able to enjoy our unique fare on the terrace overlooking the gardens, and in winter time in the vast room which was almost certainly the setting of the plays and events staged by the “Divin Marquis”.

We have 30 rooms decorated in range of colours and styles, in tones of warm stone, peach or apricot, with comfortable duvets with plain or flowered cotton covers. There is a choice of spacious suites with flower-filled terraces rooms opening onto private gardens, rooms with steam-showers or rooms with splendid views over the tiled roofs of the village.
