"The 15th-century coaching inn has hosted Charles Dickens and British royalty, and continues its VIP legacy into the 21st century.”

Located in Bury St Edmunds’ prettiest square, and situated immediately opposite the beautiful Abbey Gardens, the luxury Angel Hotel dates back to the 15th century. Charles Dickens, who stayed in the hotel while giving readings of his books in the Athenaeum, immortalized Angel Hotel in “The Pickwick Papers”.

The facilities

Angel Hotel has two restaurants: The newly refurbished Eaterie, overlooking the town square, and The Vault, located in the cellar of the hotel and dating back to the 12th century. Both serve menus with 80% locally sourced ingredients.

There’s lots of opportunity for relaxation at this luxury hotel. The lounge has a lovely original log fire, and offers guests a range of Italian coffees and English teas. The Pickwick Bar has an interesting collection of local ales and whiskeys. Both are popular haunts for townfolk and guests alike.

The Rooms

The luxury hotel has 66 guestrooms , some decorated in a traditional Victorian style and others with contemporary furniture and a cutting-edge design ethic. 23 of the rooms are air conditioned. All rooms feature interactive television offering bill viewing facilities, a film channel, SKY News and SKY Sports 1 & 2. Additional in-room amenities at the Angel Hotel include a radio, direct dial telephone with a data port for Internet access, hairdryer, and tea and coffee making facilities.
