Eating in

Opio bar and restaurant serves Asian and Mediterranean cuisine with a seafood focus. There's a brand-new concept for lunch which involves filling a bento box with dishes that span the world's cuisines.

" The mood is cool, especially in the candlelit bar and the courtyard, where beautiful folk loaf on Arabian-style sofas, puffing away at hookah pipes. Another popular chillout space is the wooden-decked rooftop, with canopied day beds arranged around the plunge pool." The Times 05

"This fashion-forward design hotel has a sharp, urban interior and a cool, bohemian vibe - attracting glamourites like moths to a flame."

Puro Hotel by Jeroen Bergmans

If Jade Jagger was a hotel, she’d be the Puro Hotel in Palma de Mallorca. This boutique hotel in the heart of the Gothic old town is the ultimate in boho chic and the brainchild of Swedish entrepreneur Mats Wahlstrom. After globe-trotting for a decade, he came up with the concept for a hip hotel aimed at the jet-set, creative crowd and bought this former palacio which dates back to the 14th century as his first venture in high-end hospitality.

The rooms

Wahlstrom insisted on splashing out on expensive amenities and sophisticated in-room technology systems which offer guests immediate access to thousands of music tracks and hundreds of films at the touch of a button. On the design front, he decided to mix the modern elegance of minimalism with his collection of colourful ethnic treasures collected over the years. Clean white lines are enlivened by pillows and mirrors from Rajasthan and parrot-feathered tribal hats from Cameroon, and elaborately carved teak doors from Burma open up to reveal slick, slate bathrooms with sultry lighting that are almost a large as the bedrooms themselves. Instead of the usual tacky chocolate goodnight kiss at turndown, guests are treated to a colorful sari bag with a camel bone bracelet from the Sahara desert promising good fortune.

The facilities

The roof terrace is decked out with four-poster daybeds and a plunge pool where you can sit with a cocktail in hand, looking out over the terracotta-tiled rooftops of the Old Town. Downstairs there’s a peaceful central courtyard of natural white stone, decorated with palms and fountains and Opio restaurant which is lined with curtains of hessian strands threaded with small white seashells. But the kicking cocktail bar is the main attraction at Puro. It’s open every night, but on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays DJs play chilled-out house while it fills up with Palma’s beau monde who order Bellinis and Mojitos from the sexy, white-clad bar staff who glide serenely through the crowds.
