Press quotes

"Steel-and-glass meets Biedermeier-and-baroque." Tatler 05< BR>
"Across from the Stadtpark and discreetly set behind the original Wasserkunst bastei wall that once enclosed the city is the 19th-century white palace once known throughout the city as "Fort Aspargus," due to the slender marble columns that adorn the garden facade. Built as the home for the princes of Saxe-Coburg-Kohary), the last of that line died out in 1978 and the palace was used for offices until a private buyer invested millions in this new resurrection. The family carriage used to sweep through what is now the lobby, now all ablaze with modern white stone and plate glass. Duke Ferdinand, however, would find comfort in the fact that up the grand staircase his Blue Salon and Chinese Salon remain the same, as does the hyperopulent pink-and-yellow marble ballroom where Johann Strauss conducted his orchestra as dancers waltzed across the parquet floor. There are no double rooms here, only deluxe modern or imperial-style suites, all named after Coburg titles. Many of them are spectacular two-storied showpieces, the best done in a gilded-yellow 19th-century Biedermeier or Empire style. All offer fresh flowers, fully equipped kitchenettes with a complimentary stock of champagne, wine, beer, and soft drinks (replenished daily), espresso makers, laptops with free Internet, and two bathrooms, some with gigantic whirlpool baths and saunas, along with separate showers with gold faucets. Some of the suites have a large terrace with lordly views of the Stadtpark or St. Stephan's spire (others look out on unprepossessing modern hotels). Popular in its own right is the house restaurant, manned by one of the most famous chefs in the country, Christian Petz. All in all, the Coburg succeeds as an eye-knocking marriage of 19th-century luxe and 21st-century comfort." New York Times 06
