Who stays here

The clientele at the Murano do tend to be young and hip; the hotel accepts children but it's not a family-friendly kind of place. It's well-known as a celebrity hang-out in Paris - LA screen queens regularly totter through the lobby and during Fashion Week it's awash with supermodels (Helena Christensen among them.)

Come for

  • Murano glass
  • Private pools in deluxe suites

Not suitable for

  • Bluff old traditionalists
  • The self-conscious, during Fashion Week

Awards

"Hot List", Conde Nast Traveller 05

Children

The hotel welcomes children, and the concierge can arrange a babysitting service for families. Extra beds are available for the room and some of the rooms interconnect for families.

Eating in

The Mediterranean restaurant (and associated glamorous bar) are headed up by Julien Chicoisne from the Fermes de Marie in Megève and Pierre Auge from London's Sketch.

Press Quotes

"It's about mood and attitude at this 43-room, 9-suite hotel, near the Place de la République in Paris" The New York Times 06

"The ultra-stylish design hotel in the Marais sets the standard, from the glamorous bar to suites with private rooftop pools."

Murano Urban Resort by Jamie Dunford Wood

Murano Urban Resort is a frightfully trendy design hotel run by young men who might as well be moonlighting for the Mob. Their black attire contrasts nicely with the overwhelming white of the design hotel - though splashes of colour and excellent lighting are used to clever effect throughout.

The facilities

The whiter-than-white décor is relieved, for example, by pink chairs, colour-lit alcoves, and a painting above each bed, while the dark corridors are lit only by purple light - a neat contrast with the white beyond. Downstairs in the design hotel there's a buzzing restaurant.

The rooms

Despite the high design, the emphasis is very much on comfort - the 51 rooms have thick white carpets, impenetrable silk drapes, and an overall cocooning effect. The bathrooms are done in slate and pebble, and each has a separate shower, with Ann Semonin bath products.
