Uma Paro is a boutique hotel in Bhutan dedicated to COMO Hotels & Resorts’ understated philosophy of quiet comfort in culturally rich locations.

In keeping with the Uma philosophy – immersing guests in the local culture and landscape to appreciate it more fully – Uma Paro provides intelligent access to the different layers that make up Bhutanese life, including monastery and festival visits. More physical excursions include guided day walks, full service camping treks and mountain biking in the Himalayan countryside.

The facilities

Uma Paro has developed a substantial COMO Shambhala Retreat, designed for guests seeking greater health through yoga and Asian-inspired treatments. There is a yoga room overlooking the Paro Valley that can be opened up to catch mountain breezes. Additionally, the boutique hotel features a Jacuzzi, indoor pool with outdoor sundeck and gym. In the pine forest, guests will find a 90 sq-metre hot stone bath house, which includes a private massage room for couples. Therapies range from specific body treatments to facials and sophisticated massages, delivered by experienced practitioners who customize treatments according to individual needs.

At Uma Paro gourmet cuisine is a crucial element of the guest experience. The boutique hotel’s restaurant, called ‘Bukhari’, serves healthy, locally inspired Asian dishes.

The rooms

At Uma Paro, there are 20 rooms and nine villas (including one two-bedroom villa), fashioned by traditionally-trained Bhutanese artisans alongside architect Cheong Yew Kwan. Rooms are clutter-free and spacious, feel warm and cosseting. Each villa contains a traditional ‘bukhari’ wood burning stove. The design maximizes views – of forest, mountains and the Paro valley – and guest comfort.
