Who stays here

The hotel is an excellent all-rounder, attracting everyone from families to businessmen flexing expense accounts in the suites. It has something of an illustrious history: Joseph Kessel and General Eisenhower stayed here; as, more recently, did Robert de Niro, Madonna to Michael Jackson.

Come for

  • Classic French styling, pleasantly traditional
  • Spacious rooms; the deluxe rooms are positively palatial
  • A well-known spa, complete with pool

Not suitable for

  • Minimalists, hip young urbanites or those irritated by the flourishes and fanciness of traditional French service

Awards

Hotel restaurant awarded a Michelin star

Children

The hotel is quite family-friendly, and can arrange a babysitting service upon request. Extra beds are available for rooms at the Deluxe size and larger, and interconnecting rooms are also an option for families. The hotel restaurant will prepare a special childrens meal upon request.

Eating in

The restaurant, Il Carpaccio, is formal and Italian and has been awarded one Michelin star. The Royal Bar is an OTT Maharajah-style place for morning coffees or evening cocktails. Room service includes a menu specially for children.

“Classically French and regally luxurious, the hotel maintains a sense of Parisian grandeur that rivals the palace grand dames.”

Hotel Royal Monceau by Jamie Dunford Wood

The stylish Hotel Royal Monceau is close to the Arc de Triomphe and just a few paces from the Champs Elysees in Paris. It is probably one of the best of the grand, non-palace luxury hotels.

The facilities

There are massive marbled columns, swags, drapes and chandeliers which greet arriving guests of the luxury hotel. Beyond this is an impressive red and black and silver tiled bar, and, at the back, a charming garden, into which the restaurant is built. Beneath are extensive treatment rooms, a gym and a small pool. The rooms

The rates are certainly better than the palace hotels of Paris, especially considering the size of the 201 rooms in this luxury hotel, which are generally big. Often they have two windows, their cream and white walls and elegant repro furnishings give them a light, bright feel. Deluxes are positively huge, and many of them have separate showers.
