"This Four Seasons sibling sits in downtown Shanghai and benefits from impeccable service, plentiful amenties and great dim sum."

Four Seasons Shanghai by Caroline Major

Four Seasons Shanghai’ is sparse and soft at the same time with its slightly off Chinese interpretation of a contemporary five star hotel. Public areas share proportions with sparsely furnished airport lounges, but friendly, attentive staff add uncharacteristic warmth. Ultimately though, the warm, soft buttery tones of the decor fail to add up to a comfortable lobby and lounge environment.

Upstairs, past the restaurant outlets and to the edge of the mezzanine level overlooking the lobby, a Sahara sized expanse of desert carpets dwarf people waiting for their dinner companions. Deep inside the hallways though the ‘Four Seasons Shanghai’ cosiness appears, so by the time you reach your room you’ll feel comfortable in a quality business hotel. The beds are spectacularly restful sporting the best bed-linen in Shanghai. The pillow menu completes sleep preparation, and housekeeping is the sort to wish for at home; all the clothes folded up, knick knacks sorted and buttons replaced.

There’s a gym with a street view and a spa for post meeting wind downs.
