"A petite but perfectly formed boutique hotel, situated within the Castelo Sao Jorge, that overlooks the Alfama district."
Brilliantly located within the walls of Lisbon’s fabled Castelo Sao Jorge, boutique hotel Solar do Castelo is surrounded by gardens and singing birds, and quite likely has the blood of the Moors within its very foundation. Classified as a historic building, architect Vasco Massapina has brought the boutique hotel stylishly up to date. Exceedingly romantic, due in great part to its mise-en-scene, Solar Do Castelo’s bright yellow façade gives no hint of the gorgeous contemporary-gothic interior scheme. Perched high above the Alfama district, the views of the city and the Tagus River are nothing short of awe-inspiring.
The facilities
The Solar do Castelo may be a small boutique hotel, but guests are by no means shorted on anything. Equipped with a bar and a lounge one can easily enjoy the atmosphere and get work done. Castelo is also incredibly family friendly considering its romantic vibe. Children under the age of twelve stay and eat free. A baby-sitting service is also available for those who would like to escape for a few hours. With much to see and do in Lisbon the boutique hotel’s concierge service as well as the tour and travel desk can be put to great use.
The rooms
Solar do Castelo offers 14 beautifully decorated rooms. Guests may be tempted never to step out with the twenty-four hour room service on hand. The boutique hotel’s décor and relaxing atmosphere make it an ideal place to stay for a romantic getaway. The uses of contemporary and antique pieces bring the hotel up to date from its unique medieval feel without losing its history. Wash up with the Molton Brown toiletries and be sure to take a stroll through the scenic courtyards and gardens.
