Luxury resort Mykonos Blu is perched above Psarou Bay, a stretch of beach regarded as the most glamorous in Greece. To keep the celebrities, heads of state and yacht-loving super-rich returning year after year, Mykonos Blu was completely renovated in 2007.
The lobby of the luxury hotel now resembles a contemporary art gallery with life-sized sculptures of donkeys, abstract canvases, ceramics and glassware all in the signature sky blue that’s synonymous with Mykonos.
The facilities
Across the expansive lobby, Mykonos Blu’s lounge bar Blu Collection attracts a smart, well-heeled crowd who relax over cocktails and enjoy the view over the famous bay below.
Downstairs, the luxury hotel’s two restaurants serve excellent dishes that ranges from gourmet fare to snacks and light dishes made from organic ingredients grown on Mykonos Blu’s own farm in Crete. For the romantic and painfully private, in-room dining or a dinner a deux at sunset on the luxury hotel’s private section of beach can be arranged.
The Elixir Fitness Gallery is equipped with a sauna, beauty salon and gym and is set to double in size in 2009. International cosmetics brand PAYOT has created signature spa treatments exclusive to the luxury hotel and private in-room pampering can be organised on request.
The Library keeps guests at the luxury hotel entertained, offering adults a selection of DVDs and two computers with free internet access. It also has a selection of toys and board games to keep the kids amused.
The rooms
Accommodation at Mykonos Blu consists of 100 white bungalows built in the traditional, cubist Mykonos style plus 11 new villas which were added in 2007. All face the sea and have terraces or balconies. The more expensive suites have private pools and indoor or outdoor Jacuzzis.
The interiors are sleek and modern with polished cement floors, ceilings sponge-washed in Mykonos Blu’s signature aquamarine and quirky, sculptural lamp shades in the shape of fig leaves. In-room technology is state-of-the-art with Bang & Olufsen sound systems and cordless phones. Bathrooms are palatial and sport marble sinks and organic products courtesy of Korres.
The Honeymoon Bungalows are particularly decadent as they each have an enormous bath in the bedroom. But no matter which room you pick at this luxury hotel, your stay will always feel like a honeymoon.
