Press Quotes

"This white Regency mansion in the city's fashionable Montpellier area, is an eclectic mix of old and new; there are hessian carpets and quirky features such as Japanese puppets hanging over the reception desk. There's also a Fifties-style basement nightclub, U-bahn, which attracts the local fun-seekers." Guardian 05

"This regency mansion is kitted out with eclectic decor and all mod cons, conveniently located in the heart of Cheltenham.”

Envisioned as the first English garden city, Cheltenham is often considered a city within a park, and is known for its festivals, shopping and horse-racing, making it a perfect location for the charming boutique hotel, Alias Hotel Kandinsky. Cheltenham’s traditional Regency town houses include details of ironwork balconies and painted stucco facades set amongst the lush greenery of award-winning gardens.

The facilities

This boutique hotel has a very popular restaurant called Cafe Paradiso. In fact it’s so popular that it’s necessary to make reservations when booking the room. The restaurant provides locally sourced fresh produce for their no-nonsense Mediterranean style dishes. Café Paradiso also hosts a monthly kid-friendly event called Club Paradiso where families enjoy lunch together and the kids get to have a go at making bread, creating pizzas or baking cookies. The Alias Hotel’s cocktail bar, Ubahn, serves up standard and original cocktails, which are very popular among locals as well as guests, making Alias Hotel Kandinsky a great place to meet people and find out the inside scoop on Cheltenham. As with other Alias hotels, the staff has a refreshingly natural, relaxed sense of hospitality.

The rooms

The 48 rooms are varied in layout as well as in interior design, although all rooms have the crown molding, French windows and high ceilings that were original to the building. In some of the rooms the rooms create a quaint niche for a writing desk overlooking a leafy street. The interior design is a mélange of antique furniture, usually in neutral tones and durable, yet comfortable fabrics. Alias Hotel Kandinsky has fun with textiles, integrating Persian rugs, checkered bathroom flooring, blue-green-gold squares on the bedspread, and floor-sweeping, honey-hued curtains. The rooms at this boutique hotel make for a comfortable stay which perfectly complements the already cosy atmosphere of Cheltenham.
