Su Gologone is one of the worst-kept secrets on Sardinia’s luxury hotel market. Despite lying inland near the Supramonte mountains (a winding 30-minute drive from the coast), the luxury hotel attracts droves of loyal guests year on year. The gourmet restaurant is the main draw, but the luxury accommodation and great service also factor in to Su Gologone’s success.
The facilities
The much-lauded restaurant doesn’t disappoint, serving up a seasonal menu of classic Italian fare. There is a huge fireplace for spit-roasting during traditional Sardinian evenings, and of course all the produce is local and the food delicious.
If you’ve over indulged (easy to do when the food’s this good), you can go to Su Golgone’s fitness centre. It offers physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, pampering treatments and personal training. The luxury hotel also has a tennis court and an outdoor pool.
Smaller touches also make this hotel special: the coloured tiles built into the steps, the old library, the candle-lit tables on a terrace overhung with bougainvillea. The luxury hotel pulls a kind of magic trick, creating a spell of intimacy and romance in such a large building.
The rooms
This luxury hotel has 70 air-conditioned rooms and suites. Rooms are colourful and comfy yet nicely understated, with beautiful works from Sardinian artists on the walls. All rooms come equipped with Satellite TV and dial-up internet connections.
