"The best-positioned luxury hotel in Cortina, lots of fun and run with charm and energy."

Hotel Ancora by Christoph Hargreaves-Allen

The luxury Hotel Ancora, built in 1826 in one of Italy’s most exclusive ski resorts, Cortina D’Ampezzo, is the perfect base for stylish ski-ers. The luxury hotel is conveniently situated in the centre of town, and though it adjoins a shopping mall, the style of its façade and interiors remains reassuringly classical.

Seen from the piazza, the first thing you notice about the Ancora is its Viennese terrace. The luxury hotel looks onto the church steeple and its terrace receives the best sun in town, making it probably the best-positioned hotel in Cortina. The reception is very Italian: warm and personable. The proprietress has abundant personality and charm, serving guests with a smile throughout the day.

In the public spaces of the Ancora, an Art Nouveau design scheme reigns. The luxury hotel's Bovarium Bernese dog, called Amore, receives large doses of affection from the owner, who can fix anything in Cortina for her guests.

With its terraces, balconies, loggia, French windows and sliding screens, this is a superb place for the summer, allowing for a great deal of light and open-air living.

The facilities

The luxury hotel’s blue and white restaurant with its gothic-style arches is a great place for a delicious evening meal. A less formal second restaurant, the Artist’s Tavern, is Hotel Ancora’s meeting point for those who wish to kick back, relax and enjoy light meals and cocktails.

The luxury hotel also has a meeting room that can seat 40.

The rooms

Hotel Ancora’s 56 rooms are full of original features and have wooden balconies with stunning, snowy views of the town and mountains. They are decorated in classic blonde-wood Alpine style, though the hydrotherapy bathtubs and Jacuzzi showers in the bathrooms boosts the modern luxe-factor. The bed heads and the cupboards are original Alpine pieces, in hand-painted wood. If you are looking for the most romantic room at Hotel Ancora, ask for Suite number 88 ahead of time.
