La Bergerie is set off the Tizi’n’test pass road in grounds of 12 acres with panoramic views of the High Atlas mountains. The basic but comfortable rooms are simply decorated in a rustic style, using authentic materials and skills, with whitewashed walls, wooden ceilings and open fireplaces or wood stoves. Each has a private garden and ensuite shower room. Beds either have wooden frames or are mattresses on concrete bases. The original rooms have now been joined by slightly larger bungalows separate from the main house, one of which has a bath.

The pool has 360° views of the stunning scenery and is surrounded by sun loungers. The restaurant is well regarded and serves a menu of both French and Moroccan food. It has a very French atmosphere with its red checked tablecloths. Mountain bikes can be hired to explore the area and an English-speaking guide can be arranged for walking and trekking in the foothills of the Atlas mountains. You can go horse-riding up the road at La Roseraie (twice as expensive to stay at, somewhat overpriced) and also benefit from their spa.

La Bergerie is a good alternative to Au Sanglier qui Fume. It can be a little desolate off-season but it offers good value and is particularly suitable for children.
