Hotel de Sers

Special Offer: romantic break for two, including breakfast, three-course dinner and VIP treatment

Hotel de Sers by Jamie Dunford Wood

One of the best of the recent crop of boutique hotels in Paris. The Hotel de Sers is the culmination of an 18-month, 20m euro renovation of an earlier 18th-century mansion that was once home to the Marquis de Sers.

The facilities
The success of this boutique hotel rests on a seamless integration of design and excellent lighting effects whilst retaining traditional features - the rather grand central staircases, the tall ceilings, the cornicing (in places), and with the introduction of 19th-century oil portraits of turn-of-the-century figures - all slightly raffish - in the public areas.

There is full restaurant service in the Hotel de Sers, taking full advantage of its 'golden triangle' location just off the Champs Elysees, a small spa, and a large light breakfast area opening out onto a terrace. Definitely a Paris favourite.

The rooms
Upstairs, paint colours - duck egg blue, mulberry and so on - have been chosen carefully to best reflect the lighting arrangements - with other bright splashes of colour from the odd funky flower print chair to lift the neutral toning and cream/white walls. The 52 light-filled rooms are grouped around a central lightwell of changing colours.

All rooms have Bang and Olufsen flatscreen TVs, classical music on the stereo to welcome guests and separate showers. Many of the bedrooms in this boutique hotel have open bathrooms and freestanding baths. It is the detailing that makes the difference in the Hotel de Sers - lamps, light switches, bowls, fresh flowers. A suite on the top floor has a large terrace with views of the Eiffel Tower.

Press quotes

"The 52 rooms' appealingly plush and contemporary mood is set by chrome-and-oak furniture, plum and pearl-gray velvets, and limestone loos with Japanese-style sliding doors. Other top-notch touches include Ladurée pastries on the breakfast tray, Pierre Marcolini chocolates in the minibar, 24-hour room service, a superb staff, and a pleasant little gym that includes a sauna and a steam room." Conde Nast Traveller 05

"The bar and restaurant are decadent-grand; the rooms are slick, make maximum use of space and have generous bathrooms. Nothing could be finer than the terrace of the top-floor suite with its view of the Eiffel Tower. This hotel has real quality (proper boxes of delicious chocolates, not a wincy thing on the pillow) and nice staff." Tatler 05
