Press Quotes

"This is one of those hotels that you would never stumble across by accident…Its design marks a new period in the work of the French designer Frédéric Mechiche." The Times 06

"The severe design hotel near Champs-Elysees is softened by bold abstracts on the walls and a lobby full of art books to peruse.”

Hotel Le A by Jamie Dunford Wood

The name of this design boutique hotel, Hotel Le A, sets the tone of what to expect. Le A tributes the first letter of the alphabet, being located on rue Artois, and having 26 rooms. Geddit? More pertinently, the way the A is written, in a Chinese-calligraphic style, it resembles Paris’s iconic Eiffel Tower (though this is not particularly nearby).

The facilities

The Hotel Le A is certainly a 'design' or 'concept' hotel in a real sense, opened in 2003. It draws the English-in-the-know at weekends, designers in the week, as well as Russians, for its proximity to the design boutiques of the Faubourg St Honore. The staff are black-clad, and colours change in the elevator. The public decor is by way of a large mural in reception and stylized graffiti on the walls. There's also an interesting library of art books in the boutique hotel.

The rooms

Upstairs, the 26 rooms are on the small side, unless you opt for a junior suite or get one of the 03s, which are slightly larger. The colour scheme of the rooms is predominantly white - with black and grey/green accents. All the light fittings, furniture and even vases are uniquely chosen for the boutique hotel, and the floors are striped. There can be some noise at weekends from the neighbouring disco, so choose courtside rooms to be sure of calm.
